The EUDAT-PRACE Summer School on managing scientific data from analysis to long term archiving, kindly hosted by the the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) of Trieste (Italy), welcomed a total of 26 Masters and PhD students and researchers from all over the world from diverse disciplines, such as computer &  information sciences, earth & environmental sciences, HPC, biological sciences, chemical sciences, the clinical medicine field and many others.

Experienced and motivated trainers guided the students on a 5-day journey through a typical research data lifecycle (data discovery; data processing; data analysis; data preservation and publishing) combining traditional theoretical lessons with hands-on sessions. The training on the full data lifecycle was also the perfect framework to invite attendees to discover the EUDAT and PRACE services and best practices providing the participants with  additional instruments to perform research better.

    Hear from the Participants!

“Often the data scientist's skill set must include not only analysis but also engineering skills and the EUDAT/PRACE summer school offers a practical overview of every step in the data life cycle, from discovery and processing to publishing, moving, and preserving." - Dr. Maria Moreno de Castro, Data Scientist at the German Climate Computer Center.

“I am a Senior Research Data Analyst / Lead Data Archivist at The Social and Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI), Qatar University. The EUDAT-PRACE Summer School covered all aspects of the research data life cycle. Furthermore, theory was coupled with practical case studies, and detailed hands-on sessions which facilitated learning of new ideas, and tools which I have already started to use in my own work. Bringing together more than 10 experts to be trainers and assistants during sessions ensured that participants were up to speed during sessions. Also, the venue and socials were great”. - Brian W. Mandikiana, Senior Research Data Analyst, Social and Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI), Qatar University

"I have recently started working as a data manager in Jülich supercomputer center, and the EUDAT/PRACE summer school provided me with an excellent opportunity to boost my knowledge in the field of data science especially in data preservation and data movement" - MSc. Eng. Amirpasha Mozaffari, JSC - Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH

The participants’ evaluation forms show a score of 4.5/5, meaning that the content presented and the organisation was greatly appreciated.
